Marcum Recognized as Kentucky SHAPE Cooperating Teacher of the Year Honoree
Laura Marcum, Physical Education teacher at Adair County Primary Center, was recently recognized as a 2026 Kentucky SHAPE Cooperating Teacher of the Year Honoree.
Dr. Wonhee Lee, Lindsey Wilson University Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator for Health and Physical Education, presented the award to Mrs. Marcum. The recognition honors her exceptional mentorship, leadership, and commitment to the preparation of future health and physical education professionals.
Mrs. Marcum has served as a cooperating teacher for a Lindsey Wilson University student teacher, providing hands-on mentoring, guidance, and classroom experience as the student prepared to enter the teaching profession. She has also had several LWU students from different college classes work with her and observe her P.E. classes.
Lindsey Wilson University, in partnership with Kentucky SHAPE, recognized Mrs. Marcum for investing her time, expertise, and encouragement in helping guide the next generation of educators.
Kentucky SHAPE (KYSHAPE), the Kentucky Society for Health and Physical Educators, is a professional organization dedicated to supporting and advancing health and physical education throughout the Commonwealth. The organization provides professional development, resources, advocacy, and recognition for educators while promoting quality health and physical education programs for Kentucky students.
As an additional token of appreciation, Marcum received an invitation to attend the Summer 2027 KYSHAPE Conference free of charge. The invitation thanked her for her willingness to open her classroom, share her expertise, and support future teachers, noting the important role cooperating teachers play in the professional growth of student teachers.
The recognition highlights not only Mrs. Marcum's work with students at Adair County Primary Center, but also her contribution to the future of the physical education profession through mentoring aspiring educators.
